Research purpose of DuTOC

Background

Over 14,000 people were diagnosed with lung cancer in the Netherlands in 2022. Fortunately, much progress has been made in the treatment of lung cancer in the last few years. As a result, the life expectancy of patients living with lung cancer has improved.

Why is a large group of patients necessary?

There is not yet enough knowledge to predict which treatment works best for which patients. To predict this properly, research in large groups of patients is needed. This is why the Dutch Lung Cancer Cohort (DuTOC) was set up. The aim is to be able to estimate with certainty whether a certain treatment is successful for an individual patient. And to improve the quality of life for lung cancer patients.

What is the purpose of DuTOC?

DuTOC aims to collect data of an as large as possible group of patients with lung cancer throughout the Netherlands. For convenience, we only talk about lung cancer, but we mean all cancers that can be in the chest cavity. By compiling all the data, we hope to provide future patients with even better tailored treatment. This can improve the quality of life and survival of lung cancer patients.
