Why is DuTOC important?
The increasing subdivision into different types of thoracic malignancies requires an innovative approach to include patients for studies. In addition, more and more extensive data is being requested for healthcare evaluation. These are two main reasons for the foundation of the DuTOC (Dutch Thoracic Oncology Cohort). DuTOC offers a solid infrastructure for prospective multidisciplinary research for all participating centers and retrospective research with the collected data and samples.
After the patient provided informed consent it is possible to:
- collect clinical data from among others medical files and the Dutch Cancer Registry (Nederlandse Kanker Registratie – NKR), among others;
- store tumor tissue and blood for future research;
- collect patient reported outcomes (PROMs) and provide feedback;
- patient will (possibly) be approached for substudies
Registry takes little time
Because the DuTOC collaborates with existing organizations such as the Comprehensive Cancer Center Netherlands (Integraal Kankercentrum Nederland – IKNL) and the Dutch Institute for Clinical Auditing (DICA), you will spend little time on the registration per patient. It only involves a short, one-time registration of the patient.
